Affiliate marketing is one of the most exciting trends in the online world. Essentially, affiliates are commission-only, independent salespeople. They get the word out about all kinds of products in ways most merchants would never think of.
Affiliate marketing isn't necessarily easy, however. A lot of new affiliates mistake it for a way to get rick quick. Yes, some affiliates earn 5 figures or more a month, but very, very few new affiliates do that, and not many experienced affiliates do either. But the exceptions are enough to make new affiliates dream of success.
This is one of the most affordable businesses to enter into in a lot of ways, but the costs can quickly add up. Affiliates may or may not have a website, may or may not have a list of customers they can email, may or may not do pay per click, may or may not advertise online... the list goes on and on. Saving money in one area means spending more in another.
And then there's learning the tricks of the trade. Certainly, a lot of affiliate marketing can be learned by reading free information online, but much information is only easily discovered by paying for it or by experimenting over time. It's a balancing act between spending what you can afford and building your business quickly.
